Guide: scale sizes of model cars in cm

How big are the scales of the model cars in cm?

Here's a quick guide to the scales available in our online shop.

There are different scales for model cars. I'm going to tell you about the ones that are the most common in our shop, but there are others too, and the principle remains the same.

Summary of model car scale sizes in cm

To calculate the size of a model car in cm, divide the actual size of the car by the number after the "/" or ":".

Let's say you want to know the size of a Toyota Supra in 1/64 scale in cm, you divide its actual size by 64 and so on for each scale. The same applies to all other models, motorbikes, trucks, etc.

That doesn't really answer your question, does it? Let's take a closer look at the size in cm of model scales.

How big is the 1/18 scale in cm?

It depends, as I explained above, whether it's a city car, a supercar or a big American like the Ford Mustang. Basically, 1/18 model cars are between 20 and 30 cm long.

This is the ideal size for detailing and if it's a die-cast metal car model*, you'll (not always) have all the doors that open. Resin models don't have doors that open, but they may be better finished and can be more expensive, like Ignition Model or even more luxurious models like Exoto.

There are also some excellent diecast models with very fine finishes. I'm thinking of the Japanese brand Kyosho, which has produced a superb Lamborghini Miura P400SV that can be fully opened, or the Americans ACME Diecast with their Shelby GT350R.

The 1/18 scale is ideal if you like detail and a car model of a reasonable size in cm.

*The metal generally used in the world of models is a zinc alloy called ZAMAC.

How big is the 1/24 scale in cm?

Both the model cars and the assembled modelkits are around 17 or 18 cm long. Again, it depends on the model.

It's a nice size for me because the models are well detailed, there are openings for those already assembled and they are more affordable than the 1/18.

Brands like Jada Toys make great little models that everyone can afford.

The 1/24 scale is popular for model kits and motorbikes too.

How big is the 1/43 scale in cm?

The 1/43 scale is between 9 and 12 cm. There are many, many model cars of this size, which is why it appeals to collectors.

There are often 'magazine' collections with this scale, and you can find models with openings. They are available in resin and diecast.

The Solido brand makes quality models, and there are also IXO Models and Norev, as well as many others.

How big is the 1/64 scale in cm?

1/64 scale models can measure up to 7.5 cm. For example, a 1/64 Mini Cooper will be much smaller than a VW T1 van.

It's a ladder I'm particularly fond of because you can have lots of them and they don't take up any space. Well, after a while it does.

There are some manufacturers who really stand out in this scale, such as Inno64 who, frankly, make superb, well-detailed Japanese models for such a small size. Mini GT also make beautiful models at attractive prices compared with some of their competitors.
